Champions Gym was victorious in a series of three on the weekend wining three out of three competition bouts at three different events.

The first of the three bouts on Saturday April 20 saw Ladies Coach Whitney Tuna take on Belmont’s Cindy Sayasone on the undercard of EPiC: Rush in a three round 52kg Women’s Muay Thai bout. Whitney’s conditioning and timing allowed her to score well timed shots and weather the storm to win by a unanimous judges’ points decision against a very tough and determined oponnent who never stopped coming forward.

On Sunday, the second of the three bouts saw thirty two year old plumber Damian del Pinto stepping in taking on Typhoon Freestyle Kickboxing’s Matt Clarke on the card of Ignition Muay Thai in MorleyThe bout was fast and furious from the opening bell with both scoring some good shots in the first round. It would be the second round that Damian would begin to find his mark with some well placed kicks combined with some excellent knees in the clinch. Damian scoring the win by unanimous judges’ points decision.

The third and final bout saw Dental Technician James Rowland stepping in taking on Nathan Perry for the 69kg Boxing WA Novice State Title Final in Maddington (Rowland had won previously his last three bouts by points decision taking him to the final decider final match). Perry with the longer reach and more powerful shots would rock Rowland early, although in the second and third rounds it would be Rowland who returned pressure in a desperate fight to the finish. At the decision it was Rowland awared the win 11 points to 8 and labelling him the new 69kg Novice State Champion.

Although Champions Gym is not predominantly a fight competition club, carefully selected Fight Team representatives work hard and give their best every time they step in the ring to compete. The three who competed and were victorious prove that anything is possible when you put your mind to it and put in the hard work and effort.

Champions Gym would like to dedicate the win to the faithful supporters and fans who attended the separate events. Without you our competitors would not have the support to do the great things they do.
