Victoria Callaghan Crowned New State Champion

July 25, 2016

Banker by day, dedicated Muay Thai fighter by night; Victoria Callaghan cemented her place in the record books this evening winning the WMC Women’s Lightweight State Championship belt following five stunning rounds in a rematch against Bec Rooney in the main event of Ignition Muay Thai.

The bout saw the shorter Callaghan up against the towering Rooney – A feared female opponent known for her clinch and formidable reach. Callaghan employed a game plan that saw her use her movement and footwork setting up with some well timed punches and kicks avoiding Rooney’s long reach and powerful weapons. Over five rounds it was the judges’ who saw it on all three cards as a unanimous decision to Victoria Callaghan.

Callaghan who has been training Muay Thai since 2012; earned her position as a title contender following some impressive wins in her last three bouts beating Perth rivals Jenna Harvey (M1FC), Bec Rooney (Beast Masters) and Jennifer Sinclair (Typhoon Freestyle) with a record that now stands at 5-2-0.
