From Party Life to the Boxing Ring: Megan’s Story
May 27, 2024 | Boxing
Megan Kelly, a 43-year-old digital innovation professional in the oil and gas industry, was once the life of the party. Megan was far from the picture of health. But today, she stands as a testament to the power of boxing. Here’s her story…
A Lifestyle in Need of Change
For years, Megan was the go-to person for a good time. Parties, drinking, and unhealthy eating were part of her routine. “Everyone was used to seeing me as the party person,” Megan recalls. “When you say no to a drink or start eating different foods, people notice. It was a big change.”
Despite her party lifestyle, Megan always had an underlying goal to improve herself, but the idea of training with others made her nervous. “I was too nervous to join a gym initially. It was a big deal for me to sign up.
The Turning Point
The decision to start boxing wasn’t an easy one. Megan’s nerves almost got the better of her, but she pushed through. “I was just nervous about training with other people,” she admits. However, the support and camaraderie she found in the boxing community changed everything.
“Last year, I fought an elite boxer with 21 fights under her belt. I didn’t win, but taking such a huge risk was a victory in itself,” Megan shares (It was her fourth bout). Proving her journey wasn’t just about physical transformation, but about overcoming fears and self-doubt.
Embracing a New Lifestyle
Megan’s transformation didn’t happen overnight. It took determination, a clear set of goals, and the support of people in the club community. “Being surrounded by people achieving amazing things made me want to achieve amazing things” she says.
The key to her success? Clear goals and a love for boxing. “It sounds cliché, but having a strong reason ‘why’, and being clear on your goals is crucial. Just remembering that it’s something you’re supposed to enjoy helped me a lot,” Megan says.
The Power of Community and Passion
For Megan, the community she found in boxing was instrumental in her transformation. “The community around these teams is amazing. When you’re surrounded by people achieving great things, it makes you want to achieve great things as well,” she emphasizes.
A New Chapter
Today, Megan is a different person. Her body, mind, and health are a stark contrast (see pic below). She no longer relies on alcohol or cigarettes for happiness. Instead, she finds joy in the discipline and community of boxing.
“Boxing has changed my life in ways I never imagined. It’s not just about getting fit; it’s about becoming a better version of yourself”.
Her story is a powerful reminder that no matter where you start, with the right mindset and community, you can achieve amazing things. Megan Kelly’s journey from a party lifestyle to a dedicated boxer is proof that it’s never too late to change your life.
